Amazing Race against the Voyager of the Sea...

Route: Johor Baharu – Kuala Lumpur - Port Klang - Phuket

We flagged off Sara, Fitri, Alia and Arif for their family cruise trip on The Voyager of the Sea from Singapore to Phuket.

The next day we met them at West Port of Port Klang where their Cruise Ship docked early in the morning. As they had to board the ship again before 4.00 pm we decided to drive to IOI Mall Putrajaya for lunch at Ko-Ryo-Won, a Korean Restaurant.

Back home we switched to our 4x4 Bigfoot and drove north and stayed the night at T-Hotel in Changloon. Early next morning we crossed into Thailand through Bukit Kayu Hitam border and drove direct to Phuket. In Phuket we fetched the kids at Dophin Pier at Makham Bay and spent time with them swimming at a quiet and secluded bay on Panwa Beach. Later we visited the kid-friendly Aquarium then had an hour of therapeutic foot massage to while away the time.

By 4.00 pm we sent the kids to the pier where a tender boat will ferry them back to their Cruise Ship for their journey back to Singapore.

The next day we continued our Kembara 4-Nation Drive covering Malaysia, Thailand and Cambodia. If we have the opportunity, we will cross into the border town of Myanmar, insyaAllah...

2017: Q6 4-Nation Ride

A week before my South America trip I had a bad fall that hurt the small of my back.

I was overcome by anxiety attack when we were in Sacred Valley Peru, a day before our excursion to Machu Pichu. At an elevation of 4,000 meter above sea level, I was experiencing severe back ache, short of breath and light headedness, all at once. The next morning before boarding the train to Machu Pichu we were advised to drink cocca tea to prevent altitude sickness. After drinking a few cups I was suddenly well and fine. It was either the cocaine in the tea or the excitement of visiting one of the Seven Wonders of the World that made me high and happy while tracing the Inca Trails in Machu Pichu.

It’s been three weeks since we came back from the South America trip and I am still nursing my sore throat and back pain. In a few days’ time hubby and I are planning to go for the year-end ride crossing borders of Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam over a duration of approximately 24 days. The first seven days we will be riding with the KKB gang to Ayutthaya, Thailand. The next ten days we will ride solo from Ayutthaya to Cambodia and into Vietnam. The last seven days we will join the JBMC and the Truecolors gang in Pai, Thailand and will ride back home with them.

Total Distance: 2,630 km


This kembara biking trip will be the last trip for 2017 and will be our 6th. We have been doing the year-end kembara like this since 2012. As it is going to be a long trip for us, it’s easy to underestimate just how much preparations need to be thought of, right? We don't wish to be caught by lack of preparedness, or a case of been-there-done-that mentality.

2016: Q5 4-Nation Ride...

Route: Malaysia - Thailand - Cambodia - Laos
Total Distance: 7,650 km

Earlier, we made plan for our 4-nation solo ride and plotted the detail routing covering Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia and Laos and coming back through different route. For the first 10 days we rode solo, just the two of us, crossing the Malaysia/Thailand border at Bukit Kayu Hitam, the Thailand/Cambodia border at Hat Lek and the Cambodia/Laos border at Dom Kralar thus completing our mission of our solo 4-nation ride for 2016.     

On day 10 in Thakhek, Laos we met up with the Truecolour Bikerz who crossed the Thailand/Laos border in Chong Mek. From then on we rode together doing the loop through Laos and Thailand back to Malaysia.

This ride was a relaxing journey covering a total distance of more than 7,650 km in 22 days. We enjoyed the freedom of riding the open road, absorbing the beautiful awesome scenery and exploring new places. I have compiled the 4-Nation Ride itinerary in our travelogue.

2015: 4-Nation Ride...

After our North Vietnam fly and ride trip, I am exhausted in every way... mind, body and soul.

But after a week rest and an opportunity to be with our children and grandchildren, hubby and I are all revved up again for another riding trip. For more than two weeks, with 13 other bikers, we will ride overland to cover parts of Thailand, Cambodia and Laos, insya-Allah.


They said riding will refresh tired bodies and restore tired souls. May we be blessed with the best of health, patient and perseverance throughout the journey...

Cambodia: Solo RIde...

Route: KL – Surat Thani – Samut Songkran – Koh Kong – Sihanoukville
– Koh Chang – Pattaya – Chumphon – Hatyai - KL
Total distance: 4,060 km
 
We took time off from our routine life to go for a 11-day solo ride to Cambodia.

On the third day of our journey we crossed the Thailand/Cambodia border at Hat Lek and stayed a night at the border town of Koh Kong. The next day we took a 4-hour bus ride to Sihanoukville, one of the pristine seaside resorts of Cambodia.

After we crossed back to Thailand we rode to the Laem Ngop Pier and took the ferry to the island of Koh Chang situated at the Gulf of Thailand and stayed there for two nights at the White Sand Beach and spent a whole day exploring the island.

Our next destination was Pattaya where we stayed for two night at the Siam Country Club. We visited the floating market, the beach and the Pattaya Bike Week site where we met a lot of bikers from all over the world...

It was a hot tiring journey but so many moments from this experience will stay in my head for a long time. And I will be updating my travel blog once I settled down and rested my tired muscles…

2012: Kembara Dana Madrasah Kemboja...

Route taken: Malaysia - Thailand - Laos - Kambodia - Thailand - Malaysia
Bikers gang: Mus/Mun, Din/Yati, Syawal, Zali, Taufik, Kitwan, Bakar

Alhamdulillah… We are back home after a 14-day 4-nation ride for a Kembara Dana Madrasah Kemboja. The journey was from 18 Oct 2012 to 31 Oct 2012 covering more than 6,000 km. 

7 motorbikes and 7 4x4 vehicles took different routes through Thailand, Laos and Cambodia for qurban and infaq activities organized by the DMK group to be distributed to remote areas in Cambodia.

World Heritage in Cambodia...

December is a lazy laid-back month where people would want to take a long break away from office, go for a holiday somewhere far.

Those skeleton staff who need to take care of the department are also relax on their job. Meetings are kept to the minimal. Everyone is in festivity frame of mind. This is the month where staff will know of their performance ratings which will later translate into their bonuses and increments. This is also the month where staff will try to finish their annual leave and for some who have the pleasure of accumulating leave and have no plan to utilize them will be calculating the cash conversion for 10 days at the max. The rest of the leave if not utilized will be burnt to ashes…

As for me I have less than 10 days left. Usually I’ll be cashing in all my leave balance but last week while looking through the mails, we came across our Enrich points flyers and decided that we will convert some for free tickets to somewhere. And we have chosen Cambodia. Our plan is to visit one of the most important archaeological sites in South-East Asia, the Angkor Wat.

I need to look for my khaki slacks and start packing my bag...
