Street Arts at Campbell Shopping Complex

"The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance." - Aristotle

(Warung Labu & Labi)

During a stroll along the back streets of Jalan Tengku Abdul Rahman, it is hard to miss the mural adorning the rear wall of the Campbell Shopping Complex. Once a bustling retail hub since the 1970s, Campbell remains a landmark of Kuala Lumpur’s commercial history, and the addition of street art has given it a refreshing new layer of character.

The mural is part of the city’s expanding street art movement, which transforms overlooked alleys and walls into vibrant canvases. Its imagery draws inspiration from Malaysia’s post-colonial years, reflecting everyday life and cultural identity. For many Malaysians, the artwork stirs a sense of nostalgia, reminding them of childhood memories, traditional trades, and the changing face of the city.

Murals at Kepong Metropolitan Park...

"Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time...'' - Thomas Merton

(A nature mural on the wall)

We frequented the Kepong Metropolitan Park twice a week for brisk walks around the two scenic lakes. The park is quite popular especially on weekends or public holidays. It is a relaxing place to walk, exercise or chill by the lake side. A perfect nature getaway in Kuala Lumpur!

Recently we noticed a beautiful mural on the outer wall of one of the washrooms. The mural transformed neglected spaces and bring vibrant art into public sphere. They should do the same to other washrooms too!

Street Arts in Pekan Lama Kuala Selangor

"I don't paint dreams or nightmares. I paint my own reality..." - Frida Kahlo

(Kuala Selangor Street Art)

The Laluan Seni Pekan Lama Kuala Selangor is located across Masjid Sultan Lumu, the back alley behind the Restoran Bagan.

(Vibrant paintings on the walls)
(Exploring the back lane)

There are two main paintings that fill the walls of the building. As you enter the clean well maintained back lane, there are arts and beautiful interesting murals decorating the walls. Apart from being a tourist attraction, the murals provide insight to the beauty and culture of Kuala Selangor and its people.

The murals of Laluan Seni Pekan Lama were contributed by local artists and have legitimate artistic merit.

Seremban Street Arts...

“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work...” - Steve Jobs

(Murals on the wall along Jalan Yam Tuan)

In conjunction with the Visit Malaysia Year 2020, several locations in downtown Seremban were decorated with murals. The street murals are located in Jalan Dato Bandar Tunggal, Jalan Yam Tuan, Jalan Tuanku Munawir up to Benteng Walk Seremban.

Unfortunately, because of the Covid19 pandemic and the MCO, we did not manage to visit these colourful sites. Recently, after completing our business at the lawyer's office we stopped along Jalan Yam Tuan and managed to capture some of the murals.

Next time we are in Seremban, we sure will find time to visit the other sites.

Lumut's Mural Street Arts...

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking.” – Steve Jobs

(Rainy season, the murals on the wall)

Lumut Town is also home to a nice long row of Mural arts.

Lumut mural street arts are found along Jalan Pegawai just next to the multi-storey carpark in town. The murals are in vibrant colours but some of them are almost faded. Most of the arts are painted close to each other so it is better to walk along the street from end to end so as not to miss any.

If you are into arts and photography then do not miss the opportunity to stroll along this colourful lane.
