Wishing you well dear friend...

"There are two blessing which many people waste, health and free time..." - Sahih Bukhari

(Puan Nur Ainiah, a year ago)

We were saddened to hear that our friend Nur Ainiah, a senior scout from Perak is suffering from breast cancer, final stage.

We planned with some friends to visit her at her house in Ipoh. During this pandemic time, it is not advisable to have many to gather at her house. We would not want her to be uncomfortable. At the moment, her immune system is fragile and we could end up infecting her with other diseases.

(Used to be an old Government quarters)

Although very weak and fragile, she was cheerful and as usual full of candor. We spent time reminiscing the good old times but did not stay long as she needs at lot of rest.

(Weak and fragile yet cheerful)

Ya Allah, help her discover her peace. Let her receive your comfort. Help her to be at rest knowing that you care for her and that you love her. Aamiin…

Celebrating Scout founder’s Day...

"A week of camp life is worth six months of theoretical teaching in the meeting room..."

(Organised by BP Guild Malaysia)

Baden-Powell, the founder of the Scout movement was born on 22 February 1857. Scouts worldwide celebrate his birthday each year as Founder’s Day.

This year, the Founder’s Day Dinner was held at the Royal Selangor Club. As usual the Kelantan contingent managed to gather quite a large number of senior members including the Golden Girls. Most of them flew in from Kota Bharu just to celebrate with brothers and sisters scout who came from all over. It was an evening of camaraderie, singing, dancing, good food and lucky draws. Lucky me, I won the lucky draw hamper!

The event ended with everyone singing their hearts out the rowdy campfire songs. And without fail doing the thousand legged worm dance as the finale.

Pingat Jasa Pengakap: A feather in my cap

"Courage is the most important of all the virtues because without courage, you can’t practice any other virtue consistently..." - Maya Angelou

(The Golden Girls: Wan Ubaidah, Noriah, Maimon and Adilah)

Circa 1969/1970 we made history when seven of us from Sekolah Menengah Kota Bharu, Kelantan joined the 42nd Boy Scouts Troop and became the first Girl Scouts in Malaysia.

We were young and innocent then and did not even know the impact and implication of our actions. We had done something important that had not been done before and would be recorded and remembered for a long time. Not long after, many schools in Kelantan and other states embraced the idea of setting up a mixed Scout Troop in their schools.

(Pingat Jasa Pengakap)

As the pioneers of the Girl Scout Movement, four out of the seven Golden Girls were honoured when we were awarded with Pingat Jasa Pengakap (P.J.P.) by Majlis Persekutuan Pengakap Malaysia. The medal presentation was graced by Tuan Hj Nasaruddin Hj Shamsuddin, PPM Deputy National Chief Scout Commissioner at the opening ceremony of the 2018 National Girl Scout Camp in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of the Girl Scout Movement in Malaysia. About 400 Girl Scouts gathered in IPG Kampus Sultan Abdul Halim, Sungai Petani, Kedah on 8 - 11 August 2018 for the occasion.

BP Guild Kelantan breakfast meet...

"In every success story, you will find someone who has made a courageous decision..." - Peter F. Drucker

(Hari Raya breakfast gathering)

A group of veteran scouts of BP Guild Kelantan arranged for a Hari Raya gathering at D&R Restaurant in Shah Alam. They had also invited Mr. Yee, a former Scout Master and wife to join us. Mr Yee was also the Choir Teacher for Sultan Ismail College team. He had trained us well and our school choir team was champion among the schools in Kelantan for two consecutive years . He had also led the team in two National Choir Competitions held in Kuala Lumpur in 1972 and in Penang in 1973.

At his age, Mr Yee is still his old self, humourous and sharp-witted. Surprisingly, after 45 years of not seeing each other, he still remembers me quite well.
