Fighting a battle...

(Dino in Taman Lukut, Negeri Sembilan)
(Rizwan in Jenjarum, Selangor)

This morning, after my visit to the Ophthalmologist to remove my eye bandage, we drove towards Port Dickson then later to Jenjarum. We had earlier made plans with some friends to visit Dino in Taman Lukut in Port Dickson and Rizwan in Jenjarum.

Dino was diagnosed with acute failure of the liver and Rizwan had a second stroke recently. Ya Allah, make them strong in their fight against their sickness.

My First Cataract Operation...

“Happiness is like a butterfly; the more you chase it, the more it will elude you, but if you turn your attention to other things, it will come and sit softly on your shoulder...” - Henry David Thoreau

(Warded in the Day-care Centre)

Lately I have been complaining of blurry sight especially on my right eye. After visiting my panel doctor, I was given a referral letter to see an Ophthalmologist in Pantai Hospital.

After my first visit I was given a date for my Cataract surgery. It is a lens replacement surgery to remove the lens of my right eye that has developed an opacification which caused impairment of vision.

I was warded in a day-care Centre where I was prepped for the surgery. During the surgery local anaesthesia was used. My cataract lens was removed through a small incision, then an artificial intraocular lens was implanted in its place. The surgery took less than half an hour to complete.

I was allowed to go home right after the surgery, Alhamdulillah...

Warung Mee Udang Banjir Tg Karang

“Life is ten percent what happens to you and ninety percent how you respond to it...” - Charles Swindoll

(A bowl of Mee Udang Banjir)

From Kg Gajah we took the West Coast Expressway to KL. When we reached Tg Karang we decided to have an early dinner at Warung Mee Udang Banjir Tg Karang.

Warung Mee Udang Banjir is about 4.8 KM from Tg Karang town and 14 KM from Sekinchan town. Mee Udang Banjir is prawn noodles cooked with curry soup. Mee Udang Banjir is popular in the Sabak Bernam area. Other than mee udang, this restaurant serves various other foods, including, nasi goreng udang and mee goreng udang.

The ambiance is nice but spoilt by the fishy smell coming from the stagnant water in the drain in front of the restaurant.

(The food is quite tasty)

Masjid Muhammadiah, Kg Air Mati Mukim Bandar, Kg Gajah, Perak

After visiting Masjid Al-Madinah Kampung Bandar, we traced our routing back to Kg Gajah and passed a new Masjid Muhammadiah in Kg Air Mati Mukim Bandar.

Our next mission is to trace another old mosque situated in Kampung Bandar near Kampung Gajah on the right bank of Sungai Perak.

(A small road leading to the old mosque)
(A graveyard on the left of the mosque)
(An old signage, still legible)

Kampung Bandar, or Bandor as the Perakians would say, was once the seat of the Perak government, hence its name. Even the first British Resident of Perak, James Wheeler Woodford Birch, lived here until his assassination on 2 November 1875.

(Left abandoned and unused)
(A unique minaret attached to the mosque)
(The outer wall is painted bright yallow)
(The hanging old geduk)

The original Kampung Bandar has long disappeared after the meandering Sungai Perak eroded the banks. All that is left as a reminder is the 133-years old mosque, Masjid al-Madinah, that was established here in 1890 located on the bank of Sungai Perak.

(The original structure still remains strong)
(Used to be a kariah mosque for the villagers)

Masjid Al-Madinah building structure uses timber from Kampung Paloh, Ipoh that was washed away from Sungai Kinta to Sungai Perak. The mosque became the focus of worship for more than 200 families at that time. However, with the current pace of development, this village is slowly being abandoned, including this old mosque. The original structure still remains despite being abandoned since the 1990s.

(Abandoned Community Hall next to the mosque)
(An old traditional house and a religious school)

There is also the tomb of a famous scholar named Sheikh Muhammad Taib Minangkabau. One of his daughters was married to the late Raja Muda Musa ibni Sultan Ja'afar and their son was the 31st Sultan of Perak, Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah (1938-1948).

We have a few more mosques to visit but we were hungry. We found a decent Malay restaurant in town and had our nasi had our lunch. We later drove to Masjid Sultan Azlan Shah to performed our jamak prayers.

(Lunch nasi kandar style)

Masjid Sultan Azlan Shah Kg. Gajah is a new mosque and was built to replace Masjid Lama Kg Gajah, the old mosque located on the bank of Sungai Perak. The relocation was done following several major floods which caused damage to the old mosque.

This new brick mosque was built away from Sungai Perak and located by the main road of Kg Gajah to Bota.

Masjid Tok Jabbar Kg Telok, Perak - 1917

Masjid Tok Jabbar was built by a rich man of Kg. Gajah who had a rubber plantation in the early 1900s. He built a mosque in Kg. Telok with Chinese Islamic civilization characteristics on a plot of land that he donated. When the Japanese army entered Kg. Gajah via Sungai Perak, the mosque was already there and was never damaged by cannon shots by the Japanese.

(A big yellow signage)
(The view from the side road)
(The dome has been replaced)
(The walls are bricks and cemented)

Masjid Tok Jabbar has the same shape as other old mosques in Kg. Gajah. The original five-sided wooden dome was replaced by a aluminum dome. This mosque does not have a Tower. The original red brick shingle roof has been replaced because of leakages. The original mihrab is made of wood. There are stone pillars in the prayer room. There is no calligraphy but carvings could be seen on the eaves of the mosque. The entire architecture symbolizes the era of Islamic Chinese civilization.

(A bridge over the river)
(Colorful painted railings)

Masjid Tok Jabbar is located not far from Sungai Perak. There is a racing track nearby. Next to the mosque is a bridge leading to the race track.
