The Gap, Frazer's Hill...

Fraser's Hill is about 100km away from Kuala Lumpur. Visitors can travel through Kuala Kubu Bharu or Bentong route to reach this highland resort. The roads from Kuala Kubu Bharu and from Bentong will eventually meet at the Gap, the border of Pahang and Selangor.

The Gap is the base station before a winding narrow road up to the highlands, cutting through beautiful rainforest scenery and mountain ridges. The Gap road remains the only route of access up to Fraser's Hill. A separate road for downhill traffic starts from Jalan Quarry after the Pine Resort.

At the Gap there is the abandoned Gap Rest House which used to be the only R&R stop for buses plying the Kuala Lipis – Kuala Lumpur route. It is now in a deplorable state. Many years ago, the 8km winding steep road to Fraser’s Hills from the Gap was a one-way road with certain times for vehicles going up and down. Visitors to Frazer’s Hill used to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea with scones at the Gap Rest House cafeteria while waiting for the gate to open. Since the new road that leads down was opened the Gap Rest House was bypassed and had to close down.

We had some photo shots around the Gap before we ascended the steep road to the Frazer’s Hill Resort.

Sungai Semangkuk Waterfalls...

Semangkuk Waterfalls is located along Route 55, which is the route to Fraser's Hill.

The waterfalls is just beside the main road, on your right. There is ample parking area across the road. You can even see the waterfalls from the car park. The waterfalls is small and quite empty during week days.

There is a shallow man-made pool into which the waterfall empties. You can take a bath or have a picnic under the gazebos. There is a toilet, but it is not very clean.

Chiling Waters and Fish Sanctuary...

Chiling Waterfalls is one of the most spectacular and impressive waterfalls in Selangor. 

Chiling waterfalls, located on the route to Fraser's Hill make up of three separate vertical waterfalls. To get there you need to trek for about an hour and wade across the Chiling River five times. When you finally reach the waterfalls it is well worth the effort.

Chiling Waterfall is located in a reserve called the Sungai Chiling Fish Sanctuary, a fisheries research project run by the Selangor State Fisheries Department.

The Pertak Waterfalls...

After the Sungai Selangor Reservoir there is a side road leading to Kg Pertak, an Orang Asli settlement. We drove through the Orang Asli village and paid a small fees to enter the waterfalls area. At the end of the tarmac road, we parked our car and hiked uphill until we reached a suspension footbridge across a small stream.

If you follow the steep and uneven jungle trail, which is slippery when wet, you will reach a ramshackle bridge over Sg Luit. A few hundred meter after the Sg Luit crossing there is a fork. The right trail leads to the Sg Luit falls, Bukit Kutu and Lata Medang. The other trail leads to Lata Jebus.

Any trails you choose, you will not be disappointed. There will be beautiful waterfalls at the end of the trails.

The Sungai Selangor Dam...

The Sungai Selangor Dam was completed in 2002, flooding the valley of Gerachi Jaya and Pertak off Kuala Kubu Bharu, and resettling the Orang Asli communites that lived here to a new village nearby. It is a picturesque dam that lies along the trunk route to Bukit Fraser from Kuala Kubu Baru town. A popular stopover for photographs and fishing activities.

The Splash Info Center, located along the main road, provides a gallery of displays and informations on the dam project.
