(The men in action) |
The Muslimat of Masjid At-Tayyibin came together in a gotong royong activity to cook Bubur Asyura in conjunction to the auspicious month of Muharram, the first month of the Hijri Calendar.
A day before, we assisted Kak Patimah, the Ketua Muslimah to look for ingredients at the Pasar Borong Selayang. Others contributed in monetary terms or helped to prepare and pre-cook some of the ingredients. We have the men to help in cooking the bubur Asyura in the mosque compound. Packing and distribution were carried out by the muslimah.

Bubur Ashura is a porridge made with a variety of ingredients usually cooked on the 10th of Muharram, which is the Day of Ashura. It is said that Bubur Ashura must have 10 types of ingredients, if more or less, then the porridge is not Bubur Ashura. Every state has different flavors and ingredients to give it a unique taste and texture.
The 10th of Muharram is related to the events of Nabi Musa and Nabi Noh. Fasting on the day of Ashura is the sunnah of Nabi Muhammad s.a.w.
