Restoran Aroma Ikan Bakar, Jeram, Selangor

“I have learned to seek my happiness by limiting my desires, rather than in attempting to satisfy them...” - John Stuart Mill

(A late dinner at Restoran Aroma Ikan Bakar)

When we were at Pantai Remis town, we thought of stopping for an early dinner but we drove on as we were not very hungry.

After visiting a few mosques in Lekir we could not find a good restaurant to have dinner around the area. When we reached Kuala Selangor we were overly hungry and decided to look for a seafood restaurant. Finally we ended up at Restoran Aroma Ikan Bakar in Jeram.

It was a good sumptuous dinner for two hungry travellers.

The proposal to buy the adjacent land was made as the old Masjid Al-Rahmaniah Bt 8 was too small to accommodate the increase number of congregation. Negotiations took place and as a result the landlord agreed to endow part of the land and the other part was sold to the mosque. The sale was partially financed by Tuan Haji Isa and other donors contributed for the construction of the new mosque.

(The history of Masjid Batu 8 Lekir)

Masjid Al-Rahmaniah Mosque, Batu 8 Lekir was built as early as the establishment of the village of Lekir around 1798 at the mouth of Sungai Lekir or Parit Besar Lekir. This first mosque was called the Masjid Belukar Cabai. However, the mosque was destroyed when a great flood hit Lekir in 1926. The great flood has caused great damage to the entire foundation of the mosque. So the new Al-Rahmaniah Mosque was built on a new site. This second mosque was called Masjid Tebing Tinggi Mosque at the beginning and then was given a new name, Masjid Al-Rahmaniah.

This mosque was inaugurated by His Majesty the Sultan of Perak Raja Alang Iskandar Shah al-Kaddasullah. The renovation took place after 30 years by changing the wooden board wall to a concrete wall. Later a high minaret in the shape of a cylindrical circle was added as a landmark of the mosque. The mosque is now used as a Vocational Tahfiz known as Maahad Tahfiz al Quran Wal Qiraat ADDIN – 19 since 2018.

The history was inscribed on a Foundation Stones dated 31 August 1957.

(Balai Cerapan Anak Bulan)

From Trong, Perak we drove on Jalan Changkat Jering - Sri Manjung road then detoured towards Pantai Remis. From Pantai Remis we drove to Hutan Lipur Pasir Panjang Segari Manjung. The beach is beautiful but the sea was quite rough. We visited the Baitul Hilal Balai Cerapan Anak Bulan where the new moon is sighted but we did not stay for the sunset.

There is Segari Turtle Sanctuary nearby the Baitul Hilal but it was too late to visit the site.

Masjid Al-Rahmaniah is located along Jalan Besar Pekan Trong, Perak. The year 1918 was inscribed on the wall of the mosque most probably indicates the age of this mosque. The mosque has been upgraded and expanded several times to ensure the comfort of the congregation.

The renovation and construction maintained the original architecture of the mosque. Because of its location, it is a stopover mosque for travellers.

Once upon a time, Bukit Gantang was very well known and was once majestic in the eyes of the entire Malay land because it was made as an administrative center of the Larut Colony by Long Jaafar after being appointed as the Head of the Larut district.

(A small road uphill leading to the burial ground)

Long Jaafar is said to have built a fortress in Pekan Bukit Gantang to prevent and repel attacks from Thailand and Kedah during medieval times. This city has also been a bloody witness to the war between Thailand and Kedah against the Perak State Government. It also witnessed the northern defense of the state of Perak falling to Thailand and Kedah, which resulted in the Perak military forces having to retreat to Kuala Kangsar before the peace agreement between Thailand and Perak.

Long Jaafar was the first person to discover tin in the state of Perak in 1848. There are former warehouses where tin ore was stored in the fortress during the reign of Long Jaafar. In addition, there is a lake built in front of the fort city.

Long Jaafar died in 1857 and was buried in this fort city. His historical landmark tomb is still there today.

The name Gantang is taken from the name of the hill, where a type of measuring tool called Gantang was found.

(Mouth watering Bukit Gantang durian)

In Bukit Gantang, we stopped at a durian stall at Bukit Gantang and bought some durian fruits. Bukit Gantang is famous for its durian orchards and nicknamed 'Tropical Fruit Village'. One of the longest train tunnels in Malaysia could also be found in this hilly area but we had no intention to visit the site today.

After having eaten some durians, we drove on and we stopped at Masjid Jamek Bukit Gantang the oldest mosque in Perak located along the Changkat Jering route and performed our jamak prayers. The mosque still retained most of its original architecture with several renovations and expansion works done over the years. The original ridged main dome of the old mosque was later replaced by a rounded dome in 1986.
