Masjid al-Kauthar Kampung Umbai is also known as Masjid Jamek Kampung Umbai, was built in 1852 on a lot owned by Tuan Hj. Hamid Bin Jais.

This mosque has 6 pillars, 2 stone concrete pillars and 4 wooden pillars. These wooden pillars and the mihrab is made of carved wood. The dome of the mosque is made of corals from the Straits of Malacca.

The walls of this mosque are built of stone concrete and the doors and windows are made of wood. The original area of this mosque is only 900 square feet with a small veranda. This mosque can accommodate more than 200 parishioners at a time.

In 1936, the kariah was split to Masjid Jamek Kampung Umbai and the Masjid Bukit Tembakau. Over the years, this mosque underwent several changes and was renovated in 1977 to accommodate the increasing congregation. In 1990’s, Masjid Jamek Kampung Umbai was once again divided into different kariahs with the constructions of Masjid Kampung Seri Minyak and Masjid Kampung Berangan Enam.

There is a historical tomb located behind the mosque. It is the tomb of Almarhum Sultan Ali Ibn Almarhum Sultan Husein
Muhammad Shah. There are several other unnamed old graves around the
royal tomb.
