A morning hike at Gunung Nuang Recreational Park...

"When everything feels like an uphill struggle, think of the view from the top..."

It’s been a while since we got out of the house.

After being home-bound for a long time because of the MCO, the Vet gang decided to get together for a durian party and pot-luck brunch at Dr Razak’s kebun in Hulu Langat.

Early in the morning we started driving to Hulu Langat via Ampang-Hulu Langat route and exited at Pekan Batu Empat Belas. As we were early, we drove on the Hulu Langat main road until we reached Kg Kuala Pangsun. This is the place where locals come to dump the durians they collect from their dusun or from the national park nearby. While we were there we noticed many cars packed with durian lovers. They were here very early, ready to catch those locals with enormous wicker baskets on their shoulders heavy with either durian kampung or the sought after aromatic durian hutan.

From here the road forks, one leads to the Sungai Langat Dam and another to Gunung Nuang Recreational Park.

The Recreational Forest is among the most popular extreme hiking spots in Selangor. Gunung Nuang’s peak straddles the Selangor-Pahang border. The facilities at Hutan Lipur Gunung Nuang are well-maintained and there are dormitories and chalets. Visitors need to register at the ranger station before they start their climb to the summit. Mountain climbers would begin their climb very early in the morning and reach the summit within 4 to 5 hours’ time. There is no need for guides as the trails are clearly marked. But during rainy weather, the trails will be very slippery.

With a 4WD, you can drive all the way to Camp Lolo. It would be a bumpy drive but takes only an hour to reach the rest huts. From Camp Lolo you can hike to a lovely waterfall about 15 minutes away. Lolo Waterfall is considered one of the compulsory stops for hikers to take a refreshing rest after the steep climb on undulating trail.

Today we did not climb Gunung Nuang but our short hike was good enough to burn some calories before our Durian Party at Dr Razak's dusun.
