(Taking a dip in the pool of Lata Perahu) |
Lata Perahu is located in Kampung Chuar, Hulu Kati, about 25 km from Kuala Kangsar.
Lata Perahu is located deep in the jungle. To reach Lata Perahu, we had to drive via Jalan Lata Perahu, a narrow tarmac kampong road. One has to look out for the road signage hidden among the tall grass by the road side. The road is so narrow that cars can only pass through one at a time. There are private fruits orchards with weekend chalets along the route.
At some stretches, the road is damaged and we need to be careful as on one side of the road there is quite a deep ravine, and on the other side the forest trees grew wild to hug the road. At the end of the kampong road, we had to turn sharp right then the road goes steeply up a hill to a small clearing among the grove of bamboo trees.
There were many motorcycles at the parking area. We could hear the sound of the waterfall and voices of youngsters playing in the pool. From where we park, we need to walk across a shallow river to reach the waterfall. The waterfall is located in pristine forest surroundings. It is not a particularly tall fall, about 10 m high, but it has an attractive classical horse-tail shape and the water flow is substantial. It provides a peaceful tranquil view from below. The waterfall empties into a pool. From the pool, it flows down the slopes, cascading over huge boulders. The surrounding is quite cooling. There are comfortable and clean areas around the waterfall for family picnics or camping.

I enjoyed watching the beautiful waterfall. The place has become a popular weekend getaway for the locals. If not well maintained the place will be strewn with litters and plastic bottles.
