Hanya tangga batu tinggal kenangan

We reached Kampung Machang Ulu late afternoon and started looking for the Masjid Lama Kg Sungai Machang Hulu using the google map coordinates. As there was no reference pictures, we could not locate the old mosque or its remains.

Not easily giving up, we drove to the new mosque and met a friendly local there who led us on his motorbike to the remnant site of the old mosques.

(We stopped by the road side earlier)
(Only the stone steps remained)

Masjid Lama Kg Machang Hulu was built in 1840. It was a small mosque and was badly damaged. The only remnants of the 182 year-old mosque is the huge stone steps hidden among the bushes. Not much is known about this old mosque.

(The site of the old mosque is hidden by high bushes)
(Once covered by thick bushes, it will be out of sight)
(We were the few lucky ones to visit the site)
(Soon it will be forgotten)

To replace the old mosque, a new mosque was built in 1966 on a waqaf land about 500 m from the original site. The owner of the land was Tuan Haji Musa bin Arshad, the then Nazir of the mosque. The mosque was officiated by YM Dato Kelana Putra Undang Luak Sungai Ujong.

This mosque has been repaired and renovated in 1970. When it was built, there were 150 congregation members and has since doubled.

(Expansion works is in progress)
(The existing prayer hall is too small for the kariah)

On the way to visit our last mosque on the list for today, Masjid Kuala Dulang in Jelebu, we passed Kampung Mendum and saw this beautiful mosque.
