While we were in Lenggong Valley, we went to look for the oldest mosque in Perak situated in a traditional village of Kampung Chepor, Lenggong, which is loaded with historical stories.

(The old mosque is restored very well)

According to history, the village was founded by two brothers, namely Tun Saban and Tun Puteh. They are the children of Tun Perak, the Bendahara of Melaka. The two brothers built the first mosque in the village, in 1539, known as the Masjid Raja which was fully completed in 1541.

The 480-year-old Masjid Raja was built during the reign of Sultan of Perak 1, Sultan Muzzaffar Shah 1, its building is still strong after three renovations. Sultan Muzzaffar Shah 1 was one of the princes of Sultan Mahmud Shah who retreated after the fall of Melaka to the Portuguese and was installed as Sultan in Kampar, Indonesia.

(A brief history of the old mosque)

The story of the construction of the mosque has its historical value involving the Islamic Kingdom of Melaka and the beginning of the Perak Kingdom which is interesting to visit and traced chronologically. The construction structure of the mosque featured Malay, Riau, Sumatra, Minangkabau, Deli and Langkap designs is still intact.

The construction of the building is strongly supported by four golden cengal wooden pillars that are still intact and placed in the middle of the mosque. The original wood remained intact and has not been affected in the slightest way till this day. The original mosque had a thatched roof and kelarai wall with the upper frame made up of round-shaped timbers. The thatched roof was replaced with a Zinc roof.

A new bigger mosque Masjid Al-Rahmaniah was built next to the old mosque.
