The village is named in conjunction with the name of the Suku. According to history, Kampung Selemak is one of the earliest villages explored by Minangkabau immigrants. It was explored by Datuk Kepala Putih in the early 16th century.
Next we went to the back to visit the old mosque. Masjid Lama Kg Selemak was built in 1844. The land where the mosque is built was a waqaf land by the local. The old mosque was built by Hj Mahmood, a Javanese who lived in Melaka. The original mosque was made of wood. The two graves found next to the old mosque were the graves of Hj Mahmood and his wife. The old mosque is well taken care of. The old tabuh is still kept in the old mosque.
The new Masjid Kariah Kg Selemak was erected by the State Government next to the old mosque in 1984. This mosque was repaired and upgraded in 2000 and 2008. When it was built, there were only 60 members of the congregation and now it has reached about 200 congregations . The architecture, the mimbar and others building structures have been maintained as the original designs. Only minor changes have been made such as color modifications to suit the village atmosphere.
Masjid Kariah Kg Selemak has won the Model Mosque Competitions within Rembau District Level several times.

We performed our Dhuha prayers in the new mosque then took some pictures of the antique mimbar. This mimbar is said to be about 180 years old. It has the same design as the mimbar of Masjid Nerasau which we will visit later. Based on the design and information from the inscriptions, the two mimbar were carved by the same individual.
