Masjid Al-Azhar was built on a three acres site and is capable of accommodating 500 worshipers at a time. The cost of building the mosque was obtained from private and public donations as well as some non-governmental organizations.

The planning of the construction of this mosque began in 2011 to replace the old Masjid Al-Akram which was more than a hundred years old. The construction of this mosque was completed in phases. The pulpit was specially ordered from Indonesia.

Masjid Al-Azhar has a main prayer room, 3 open prayer rooms and a women's prayer room. Among other facilities are bathrooms, toilets, ablution rooms, kitchens. There is ample parking area in the mosque compound.
