Masjid Jamek Titi Papan was opened in 1893 on a reclaimed swamp land and was once a mosque for the Jawi Peranakan community in the mid-19th century. In the old days, the drain around the area was said to be big enough for sampans and barges to sail right up to the mosque. A wooden plank was used as a footbridge to get to the mosque, and hence the mosque was named Masjid Titi Papan.

This mosque is characterized by Muslim architecture and is administered by the Chinese Muslim community. The Friday sermon was delivered in Mandarin as an initiative for the Chinese community to understand Islam and its teachings. This mosque also organizes basic fardhu ain classes and lectures in Mandarin on a weekly basis.

After visiting Masjid Titi Papan we walked a short distance to another along the road. Masjid Tengah Jalan Burmah is a small mosque located by the side ofthe road. It was locked when we were there.
