The original Al-Jamiul Badawi Mosque, has wooden walls and a roof, was built in 1784 on a plot of land belonging to Lebai Abdul Kadir. The mosque was located next to a cemetery. The mosque was too small to cater for the increase in worshippers. It was then decided to build a bigger mosque.

The new mosque was fully completed in 1965 after the old mosque was demolished. In September 1966 this mosque was inaugurated by YAB Tun Haji Abdul Razak bin Dato' Hussain, the then Deputy Prime Minister. This mosque was named after the late Dato' Haji Ahmad Badawi bin Haji Abdullah Fahim for his contributions and services.

The uniqueness of the architecture of the mosque lies in the dome which is built of bricks, making it magnificent even when viewed from afar. The original dome and pulpit are still in use till today.

We have visited this mosque a few times. The first visit was with our bikers gang during our Kembara 44 Masjid in 2013.

Batu Uban Mosque was originally located on the beach in Batu Uban. According to local tales, Batu Uban Village was opened by Nakhoda Intan bin Almarhum Nam Tungku Patis Batang, a descendant of the King of Minangkabau.

Nakhoda Intan has requested the permission of Tuanku Sultan Kedah to be able to reside in Penang and open the Batu Uban village with his family members and other immigrants from Minangkabau. A small mosque was built there. The Batu Uban Mosque has undergone many renovations works, but there are still remnants of old buildings including a fresh water well in this mosque. There were various interesting intrigue tales about this mosque which could be read from history books.

Nakhoda Intan died at the age of 80 and was buried in Masjid Batu Uban compound.

Masjid Jamek Rawana is an old Indian Muslim mosque at the junction of Perak Road and Jalan P. Ramlee. It is located a short distance away from Masjid Khan Muhammad. It is considered as one of the oldest mosques in Penang.

Very little is known about the history of Jamek Rawana Mosque. It believed to be established in the 19th century, when Indian traders come up Sungai Pinang by sampan and disembarked there to trade with the locals.

The Rawana Mosque was recently flooded which caused the loss of furniture, carpets and prayer mats.

Masjid Khan Muhammad is also called the Khan Rajabee Mosque.

Masjid Khan Muhammad is located along Jalan Perak. This mosque is believed to have been built by a wealthy Indian Muslim merchant in the 1860s and was then named the Khan Muhammad Mosque. The small Indian mosque does not have a dome. Around the 1960s, this mosque was always visited by worshippers from nearby villages even though there was another mosque next to the Khan Muhammad Mosque, the Rawana Mosque.

These two mosques are located so close to each other and are only separated by a river, namely Sungai Pinang. Among those who have been religious teachers at the mosque is Che Wan Teh also known as Haji Wan Teh, his real name is Haji Ibrahim bin Muhammad Akib.

This mosque has been taken over by the Islamic Religious Council of Penang (MAIPP) and placed under the care of the mosque committee. The mosque still maintains its original building structure and never been renovated or expanded.
