The sky was clear this morning when we started driving towards Seremban with coffee stop and a bowl of delicious lontong at Elmina R&R. Today we planned to complete visiting old mosques of Negeri Sembilan.

The first on our list was Masjid Jamek Dato Kelana Petra Sendeng Ampangan situated by the main road of Jalan Jelebu. The mosque was originally built in 1840 during the reign of YTM Dato' Kelana Petra Kawal and was repaired and modified by YTM Dato' Kelana Petra Sendeng who became the Undang Luak Sungai Ujong from 1850 to 1872. In 1928, YTM Dato' Kelana Petra Maamor bin Kasim, Undang Luak Sungai Ujong rebuilt the mosque with concrete which became the base of the current mosque. The land is a waqaf land owned by Tok Mukim.

The name of this mosque was changed to a new Masjid Jamek Dato’ Kelana Petra Sendeng from October 1995. This mosque was repaired and upgraded several times. The capacity of congregations had reached 3000 members.

The mosque is built according to local concept architecture, which is a three -tiered roof and has a crown at the top. This concept is similar to the mosques in Melaka, Pahang and Kelantan. The main building is rectangular in shape and there is an addition spacious corridor on the right side to accommodate additional congregation members.

(Temporarily closed until further notice) |
When we visited the mosque, it was under massive renovation and expected to be completed by the month of Ramadhan, insyaAllah...
