The design of Masjid Yahya Ubudiah is quite unique. It is influenced by combined architectures from Acheh, the Middle East and the Archipelago. It is the oldest mosque which was built using bricks in Hulu Perak district. The overall colour of this mosque is bright yellowish orange. It was built during the reign of Sultan Iskandar Shah, the 30th Sultan of Perak.

According to a marble plaque on the wall, this mosque was inaugurated on 11 Jamadil Awal 1358 equivalent to Friday, 30 Jun 1939 by Sultan Abdul Aziz Muttasim Billah Shah, yang Dipertuan Negeri Perak. The mosque was built through combined effort of Tuan Haji Amir Yahaya, Orang kaya Seri Adik Raja Shahbandar Muda, assisted by the residents and supported by the government.

The mosque has undergone several upgrading works, the last was in September 2021. While it was being renovated, daily and Jumaat prayers, religious classes and other communal activities were carried out at Surau Al Khairiah Kampung Bor. Even after several renovations, Masjid Yahaya Ubudiah still retains its original design. The mosque has a congregation capacity of about 100 members.
