Although Masjid Kariah Seberang Paya is not in our list of old mosques in Negeri Sembilan, we were quite intrigue to visit it as we were informed by one of the villagers we met earlier that this mosque is built earlier than the Surau Batu.

Masjid Kariah Seberang Paya is located in the area of Kampung Seberang Paya in Rembau District, not far from Surau Batu and close to the Gunung Datok camping site.

This mosque was originally built by Undang Luak Rembau Dato' Haji Sulong Ambia on a site endowed by an individual in 1915. However, Dato' Haji Sulong's wish was not fulfilled because before the mosque was completed, there was a strong storm in the area that caused the unfinished building to collapse. The building materials of the mosque were not enough to build a new mosque, so a decision was made to use those materials to build a surau on a new site. The building materials were taken to Kampung Gadong the village of Undang Dato' Haji Sulong. This surau is better known as Surau Batu Kampung Gadong.

In 1918, once again Dato' Haji Sulong and his people rebuilt this mosque and named it Masjid Kariah Seberang Paya. It is a beautiful mosque that still retains its historical values. This unique mosque is hexagonal in shape with 4 main pillars. There are windows surrounding the prayer hall. Above the windows are beautiful sculptures. The mihrab is built of stone with air holes for ventilation. There are clocks that are believed to have been decades old kept in the mosque.

The mosque was repaired and upgraded several times. presently the mosque could accommodate more than 200 congregational members.
