Surau Batu Kampung Gadong is a privately owned building and was built by Undang Dato' Lela Maharaja Haji Sulong bin Ambia in 1920.

This surau was built for the use of Tuan Haji Abbas, a former Rembau District Kadi who lives in the ancestral house of Haji Sulong’s mother. In this surau, Tuan Haji Abbas taught religious knowledge to the residents of Kampung Gadong.

The construction of this surau was not planned. It started when a mosque in Seberang Paya had collapsed and the building materials of the mosque were not adequate to build a new mosque. It was decided that the building materials were used to build a surau on a new site. The building materials were taken to Kampung Gadong, the village of Undang Dato' Haji Sulong. This surau is better known as Surau Batu because it is built of stone and at that time there was no other surau made of stone.

Around 1929 when Tuan Haji Abbas moved to his own house, this stone surau remained as it was, only terawih prayers were held in the month of Ramadan. He was replaced by Tuan Haji Mahmud who lived near the Surau Batu and only acted as an imam. After Haji Mahmud died, the surau was abandoned and the building became damaged. There were no financial resources to repair the building. Although this surau has been abandoned for so long the structure of the building remains strong.
