We were on our way back from a majlis tahlil and kenduri in Seremban 2 when we decided to detour to Seremban to visit the Masjid Jamek Lama Seremban.

Masjid Jamek Seremban or formerly known as Masjid Jamek India, is claimed to be the first mosque built in Negeri Sembilan. It is located on the corners of Jalan Yam Tuan and Jalan Dato' Bandar Tunggal.

(We arrived in the heavy rain)
(Also known as the Red Mosque)
(One of its kind in Negeri Sembilan)

Masjid Jamek Seremban was built in 1900 with a unique architecture and different from other mosques in the state. This beautiful pinkish red mosque is one of the attractions in Seremban.

The mosque was built on a waqaf land from YM Dato’ Bandar Hj Ahmad bin Ali and Sheikh Abdul Kader's family who is said to be among the famous preachers of the time. The mosque was upgraded and expanded but still maintains the original design. Even the Minaret which was built in 1924 is still maintained.

In Negeri Sembilan, most mosques adopt Minangkabau architecture, which is in accordance with Adat Perpatih. With the exception of Masjid Jamek Seremban which design is similar to the mosques in Melaka, and quite similar to that of Masjid Kampung Hulu. Masjid Jamek Seremban is the only mosque with such a design in Negeri Sembilan.

(Well kept garden surrounding the mosque)
(Peaceful and tranquil)

The main prayer room is rectangular and has a dome. The mosque has 30 small pillars to support its structure. This mosque is surrounded by spacious veranda. The uniqueness of Islamic architecture makes it admirable and attractive and has become a tourist attraction and a symbol of the greatness of Islamic teachings in Negeri Sembilan.

(Dark clouds, a promise of thunder storm soon)
(It was still raining cats and dogs)

Initially, the mosque can only accommodate 500 worshipers, but is now able to accommodate about 1,000 to 1,500 at a time.
