The Istana Bandar is a historical palace in Selangor built in 1899. The 5th Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sir Alaeddin Sulaiman Shah had lived here for 35 years, since 1905. At that time many British officials and foreign guests came here. In this palace, ceremonial functions and religious ceremonies were also held because he was a very influential and powerful sultan.

Istana Bandar is close to the Sultan Alaeddin Mosque and used to be painted in yellow and white but now both are painted in white. The palace was used as a center for the study of the Quran and the Selangor Islamic Religious Department.

The architecture of this palace resembles the Islamic architecture of India and the Middle East. Workers were recruited from China to complete the palace. At that time, the Klang Valley and Hulu Langat became major tin producers.
