The mosque is named Masjid Sheikh Ismail Ulu Bernam in conjunction with the name of a Sufi scholar, namely Sheikh Ismail Al Khalidi An Nasqsyabandi or his full name is Sheikh Ismail bin Hj. Mohd Arif, a leader of the Naqsyabandiyyah al-Khalidiyyah sect. It was opened on 15 Safar in 1345 H equivalent to 23 August 1926. Although it is nearly a hundred years old, it is still intact and used by Muslims for worship. The design of the whole building is made of wood and still strong reflecting old traditional Malay architecture.
