If you are in Klang, you may want to consider trying a few Klang food outlets which have been around for many years and even decades. One of them is Restoran Cendol Klang, famous for its signature dishes, cendol and rojak. The business has been in operation since 1972. There is an interesting story of how the Indian founder, sold his watch to start the cendol business on his cycle cart along Jalan Nanas.

In the early years, we never fail to stop to buy cendol from him on our way back to KL after visiting Nenek Buyut in Meru. We would eat our cendol standing. If we were lucky we could get hold of plastic stools to sit and looked for shaded places nearby to enjoy the tasty cool cendol. When our children were still young, Cendol Klang acquired one shop lot along Jalan Nenas and began selling cucur udang, rojak and mee goreng. It was very popular then and could be quite busy especially during lunch hours and after office hours.

From a normal cendol, they began serving a range of other cendol varieties such as cendol pulut, cendol ais krim and cendol campur, among others. The cendol is served with shaved ice in stainless steel bowls with steel spoons. On our recent visit, we ordered cendol biasa and mee goreng for me and cendol campur and rojak for dear hubby. We found the cendol still has the good taste of yesteryear, maybe even better with a little bit more of the gula Melaka for our sweet tooth.
