This morning, after having visited a few eateries in Bangsar and Shah Alam, all were overly cowded. We ended up in Restoran Kuali Gelegok in Seksyen 15. This was our second visit and most probably the last. All the dishes are very saltish.

As we were already in Shah Alam, we decided to visit a few mosques in shah Alam and Klang. Our first visit was Al-Muhsinin Mosque or better known as Masjid Kampung Sungai Kandis, which is one of the oldest mosques in Selangor. This mosque is located in Kampung Sungai Kandis, Mukim Bukit Raja, Klang. It was built in 1906 by the villagers who are mostly of Javanese descent. The construction took about 10 years to complete.

The building materials used consist of stone and wood. Originally the mosque had two ablution pools on the left and right side which were later demolished when they carried out renovations to enlarge the mosque. This is due to the increase in the congregation of Kampung Sungai Kandis.

(A simple but unique mosque)

The design of the Kampung Sungai Kandis mosque is quite simple but unique. The original form almost resembles the architecture of a mosques in Java, Indonesia. However, after going through a few renovations, the shape of this mosque has to some extent changed although its facade still retains its original architectural features with some of its structures still intact and in good condition to this day. The preserved structures includes four main pillars located in the prayer hall. The pillars are made of cengal wood specially imported from Java.

Among the special features found in the Kampung Sungai Kandis Mosque is its roof which features a multi-storey design. According to the locals, the arrangement of the roof in such a way not only provides natural lighting but also good ventilation.

(A wedding function is in progress)

The original mimbar was built of wood from Indonesia. The Beduk is still in good condition. In the past, the function of the beduk was to mark prayer time. Apart from the beduk, the kentung which is the same age as the mosque is still in good condition.

The mosque is also equipped with an azan minaret. However, the stairs to the minaret were demolished as the tower was no longer used for azan but was replaced with a loudspeaker system.
