From Klang we drove on Route 5 towards Tanjung Sepat and made a brief stop in banting to visit the Sideks Badminton Monument. The monument is situated in the compound of the legendary Dato' Haji Sidek family residence in Kanchong Darat, Banting Selangor. The Sideks Badminton Monument has become an attraction in Selangor especially for local and foreign tourists.
The monument was built in 1992 by the then Menteri Besar of Selangor, Tan Sri Muhammad Muhd Taib when the Malaysian badminton squad successfully seized back the Thomas Cup trophy. The local community volunteered to repair the monument to fuel the spirit of the Thomas Cup. It is also an appreciation to the contributions of the Sidek family.
Sidek's children became the phenomenon of the country when all members of the family represented Malaysia over the years in the badminton tournaments locally and abroad.
